Debaser

In the past 3 years, the number of shows I have attended has drastically decreased. There are various reasons why, mostly due to the fact that I am older, I don't want to drive to Nashville or Atlanta, and I don't like staying up much past my bedtime. In college, weekend trips to the Fireside Bowl, the Metro, or the Emerson were a regular occurance. Now, I would rather just stay at home and watch the bands on youtube. Also the older I get, the pickier my taste in music has become. I have turned into that old guy at the back of the crowd complaining about how much better the scene was in his day. Every generation of indie snobs goes through this and I am no exception. Even though I have only been to 1 show in recent years, I sure as heck made that one count. It was worth every minute of the drive from Huntsville to Chicago to see the band responsible for saving rock in America. It's hard to imagine today's musical landscape without thinking of the Pixies. Every time I get a call on my cell phone from Keith, Dan, or Kevin, I am greeted with Kim Deals pounding bass line from debaser. Almost 25 years later, they still sound as great as they once did (although they have gained a few pounds in the process). Hopefully they will keep their past feuds aside and stay around long enough to create one last masterpiece before gracefully bowing out.
